Know who You Are

Know Who You Are

How can you know who you are?
Does anyone really care?
How can anyone say who they are?
I guess it depends who is there.

Ask my sister, she'll say, a sister,
Someone to help and love,
Someone to patch up a blister,
Someone free as a dove.

Ask my daughter, they'll say, a Mother,
Someone who loves them when bad,
Someone like no other,
Holds them when they feel sad.

Ask my husband, he'll say a wife,
Someone to talk to,
To spend all his life,
Who loves me for all I do.

Ask my niece, she'll say an Aunty,
Someone who's always there,
Someone who loves me,
Who always cares.

Ask my Cat, she'll say a soft pillow,
Someone who feeds me,
Says hello,
Strokes me and loves me.

Ask my friends, they'll say a friend,
Someone who understands no matter what,
Who's there to the end,
Shows me the good I've got.

But ask me, and I just don't know,
How can I possibly see,
Is there someone who will show,
The good inside of me?

I am a sister, A Mother, A wife,
these things I will be,
For all of my life.
I am an Aunty and a pillow so soft,
I am a friend who asks how you are,
And waits for an answer
To help heal your scars.

But the best thing I am,
The only thing that counts,
Is that I am ME,
Of that I have no doubt.
